The Southern Kentucky AHEC strives to connect undergraduate students with rural health career opportunities.  The AHECs work with local hospitals,
clinics, and other healthcare agencies that help bring Southern Kentucky’s brightest talent back home after healthcare training.

Preparing Southern AHEC's next generation of physicians. 
Targeting students from Berea College, Centre College, Eastern Kentucky University, Union College, and University of the Cumberlands, FutureDocs provides information, resources and networking to help raise MCAT scores and strengthen medical school applications.

Financial Support for MCAT preparation course, Personal essay help, Application Advice and much more!

To apply students must:
Be a college junior or senior
pursuing an MD or DO
Be prepared to take MCAT
Be a Kentucky resident
Have a 3.5 cumulative GPA in Biology, chemistry, physics and math

Fee is $400.00
(will go toward the cost of the Princeton Review).

AHEC Connect

Challenging journeys are best travelled with the help of a mentor, a trusted guide who can help you stay on the right path. 

That’s why the Southern KY AHEC has developed AHEC Connect, a mentoring program for college undergrads who want to pursue a medical career.

The 4-month program is free of charge, takes little time, and provides a structured framework for communicating with a mentor to help guide you along your journey.
Must be a graduate from the Southern AHEC region to qualify.

AHEC Scholars

AHEC Scholars is a program for health professions students interested in supplementing their education by gaining additional knowledge and experience in rural and/or underserved urban settings.

This is a two-year longitudinal program with interdisciplinary curricula to implement a defined set of clinical, didactic, and community-based activities.

Applicants must:

Be enrolled in a health professions degree program

Be two years from program or degree completion

Commit to two years in the program and a one-time program follow-up

For college students enrolled in these majors:

Social Work, Dietetics, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, Public Health, Nursing, Laboratory Sciences, Health Care Administration, Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Massage Therapy,Surgical Technology, Medical Assistant, EMS/Paramedic, Exercise Science, Radiography, Diagnostic Sonography, Psychology/Applied Behavior Analysis, Medical Information Technology, and Mental Health Counselor.
